2025 Recap + Prismatic Anniversary + Resolutions for 2026

Dried leaf in Brussels, Belgium

I’m back from my Hiatus! In this post, I’ll basically give updates to my 2025 resolutions and set new goals for the upcoming year.

Prismatic Pink Anniversary

I created this website on 11 October 2024 (my grandpa’s 90th birthday, might I say), so my post is a bit late. To be honest, I wasn’t even aware of how time has passed until I had to pay for the domain renewal. Of course, I forgot about that and the site went down for one or two days lmao.

On my previous post, the main site was still under construction and the pixel art subdomain was just on my plans. They’re both done and thriving, so I’m quite happy about that! Now my biggest goal is revamping the blog’s layout, I’m tired of how it looks. Since this is my only non-static site, this will take a bit longer, and that’s why I haven’t started yet.

My 2025 Overview

I’m proud of saying that I have actually accomplished most of my goals this year. Yay!!!! I did not set a high bar this time, maybe it plays a huge part on the success I had.

First goal was getting a job, and I failed miserably on this one lol. However, that led me to a plan B that was succesfully executed: starting my MA. I have mentioned previously that getting a Masters Degree in Europe weighs differently than in Latin America. Most programmes here are “taught Masters”, and they don’t expect an extensive research background from you. Undergrad programmes usually last 3 years, vs the 4+ years in Latam. As a side effect, all jobs, even those that don’t explicitly state it, expect a Master Degree from the applicants. Since I don’t have one yet, that put me way behind other candidates.

Studying abroad has been my biggest dream EVER since I was a little child, but at some point I had lost hope and I thought it was unachievable. I had lots of friends doing high school exchange programmes in the US or going to Disneyland when they turned fifteen, and I was sooo jealous of them. Some would also post pictures next to the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben during their ~Eurotrips~. I can also see that on my classroom now, since most colleagues are going back to their countries for the holidays, or their relatives have visited them. My parents still haven’t had the opportunity to visit me here, but I hope they will soon.

Another thing this year that made little Sakkie very happy was my trip to Portugal. I met two of my dearest friends that I’ve known since 2009! Being in a foreign country that speaks my language was also very welcoming. I know that there are lot of heated debates these days putting Portuguese and Brazilians against each other, and by no means I want to soften the harsh consequences that colonisation has given us, but hatred and intolerance is definitely not the solution. Fortunately, my experience in Porto was the best, and I cannot wait to visit Lisbon in the future.

I was not able to visit the UK this year, but we spend a nice weekend in Brussels to compensate. We don’t speak French or Dutch, but it was funny that I could understand more French (my auntie is married to a French) and my husband could understand more Dutch (he speaks a bit of German).

Now, the most successful part of my resolutions: I started my weight loss process in September and now I’m down one size in my clothes! I’ve still got a long way to go, but that’s such an important achievement to me.

Resolutions for 2026

My first resolution is basically keeping up with the weight loss process. I haven’t been able to include exercise in my routine yet, so that is definitely one of my biggest goals. For me, dieting isn’t as hard as exercising, but I still need to build up muscles.

Since I couldn’t travel to the UK this year, I’ll put it in next year’s resolutions as well! I really want to go back to London, the city is huge and gives me São Paulo vibes (my favourite place in Brazil). We also want to visit Scotland, I’ve only heard amazing things about there. Another country on my bucket list is Germany: my great-great-grandfather was German (such a distant relative, I know lol) and now we have something in common: we’re both immigrants. Having children isn’t in my plans, but if I had, I’d certainly imagine my great-great-grandchildren talking about “their Brazilian heritage” the same way I talk about my German heritage, and that’s kinda funny. I wish I could do the same about my African or even Portuguese ancestors, but colonisation took that away from me.

Next year’s goals are basically consolidating things I have already started this year, like my MA! It’s so weird to be part of a one-year programme instead of two. To be honest, if I had the choice, I would do the two-year programme instead, even if it takes longer, because one year is such a short span of time and that gives me a lot of pressure to finish things. I have been thinking about PhD applications as well, but I don’t think I feel prepared to take such a step at this moment.

Thank you for being with me this year. I hope the next one will be even better!
